With a 56V system and included 2.5Ah battery, it offers performance comparable to a 40cc gas engine. This spec-focused look helps you decide if it fits your needs.
What stands out
- 16-inch bar and chain for standard cutting tasks
- 20 m/s chain speed for efficient cutting
- 40cc gas equivalent power output

- IPX4-rated weather-resistant construction for outdoor use
Who it fits
Good fit for
You should choose this saw if you want a cordless tool that replaces a mid-sized gas model. The 16-inch bar handles most residential firewood and limb removal. The 56V battery system works well if you already own other EGO tools, allowing you to share batteries. The IPX4 rating means you can use it in light rain without worry. It suits users who prefer quick setup and low maintenance over raw industrial power.
Who should skip it
Skip this model if you need to cut large diameter logs regularly. The 16-inch bar limits your maximum cut size, making it less ideal for heavy timber work. If you require longer runtime for all-day jobs, the included 2.5Ah battery may drain quickly. You might prefer the 20-inch bar option from the same lineup for larger capacity. This tool is not built for continuous professional logging or heavy-duty commercial use.
Verdict: This chainsaw offers solid 40cc-equivalent power in a lightweight, cordless package. It is a practical choice for homeowners with existing EGO batteries who need a reliable 16-inch cutter.
Key specs for this chainsaw
Voltage: 56V
This voltage rating indicates the electrical potential driving the motor. Higher voltage generally allows for more torque and consistent power delivery under load. You get performance comparable to larger gas tools. This makes it suitable for heavier cutting tasks. It ensures the tool does not stall when encountering dense wood. Check your existing battery platform if you own other 56V tools for shared compatibility.
Bar Length: 16"
The guide bar length determines the maximum diameter of wood you can cut in a single pass. A 16-inch bar handles most residential trees and large branches. It offers a balance between reach and maneuverability. Shorter bars are easier to control, while longer bars require more power. This size is ideal for firewood preparation and clearing moderate-sized debris from your yard.
Chain Speed: 20 m/s
Chain speed measures how fast the cutting links move along the bar. A speed of 20 meters per second provides efficient cutting action. Faster speeds remove material quicker, reducing the time spent on each cut. This helps prevent binding in thicker logs. It contributes to smoother operation and less user fatigue. Compare this to slower models that may struggle with dense hardwoods.
Battery Capacity: 2.5Ah
Amp-hour capacity defines how much energy the battery holds. A 2.5Ah rating supports up to 130 cuts on a 4x4 post. This is sufficient for typical homeowner projects like trimming branches or processing small firewood. For larger jobs, you may need a higher capacity battery or a spare. It balances runtime with overall tool weight, keeping the unit manageable for extended use.
Design and build details
The listing describes the EGO Power+ 56V 16-Inch Cordless Chainsaw as a black unit with a specific physical footprint. According to the listing, the tool measures 10.6 inches in length, 10.3 inches in width, and 3.46 inches in height. It weighs nine pounds. These dimensions suggest a compact form factor that you can handle with one hand or maneuver in tight spaces. The low height profile likely aids in keeping the tool balanced during overhead cuts or when working near obstacles.
Construction features include an IPX4-rated weather-resistant design. This rating means the internal components are protected against splashing water from any direction. You can use this tool in light rain or damp conditions without immediate risk of damage. The finish appears durable enough for outdoor storage, though covering it remains a good practice.
The layout centers on a 16-inch bar and chain. The listing highlights a tool-free chain tensioning system. This allows you to adjust tension quickly without extra hardware. An automatic oiling system reduces manual maintenance steps. The low kickback chain design includes a brake indicator. This feature enhances safety by alerting you when the chain brake is engaged. The overall build prioritizes ease of use and durability for residential yard work.
Setup and everyday use details
The listing notes that the EGO Power+ 56V 16-Inch Cordless Chainsaw includes a 56V 2.5Ah ARC Lithium battery and charger. This means you receive the necessary power source for immediate operation. The tool-free chain tensioning system simplifies initial setup and routine adjustments. You can adjust the bar and chain quickly without needing additional tools. This feature supports consistent performance during daily use by allowing you to maintain proper tension easily.
In terms of power, the unit is rated at 40cc gas equivalent. This specification suggests it delivers torque and cutting speed comparable to mid-size gas saws. The 56V voltage rating drives the motor, providing consistent power under load. The chain speed is listed at 20 m/s, which indicates a fast cutting pace for efficient wood processing. You can expect up to 130 cuts on a 4x4 with the included battery, offering substantial runtime for typical homeowner tasks.
Safety and maintenance are handled by built-in features. The automatic oiling system reduces manual maintenance, ensuring the chain stays lubricated during operation. The low kickback chain design includes a brake indicator, enhancing control and safety. The IPX4-rated weather-resistant construction allows use in light rain or damp conditions without immediate damage. Weighing 9 pounds, the tool is manageable for extended overhead or detailed cutting work. The 16-inch bar length provides a wide cutting width for most residential firewood and pruning needs.
What To Know Before Buying
This chainsaw is part of a larger 1-item guide focused on wood chippers and shredders. You should consider how it fits into your broader yard work routine. While it cuts branches, it does not shred them. You will still need a separate chipper for bulky debris. Check battery compatibility if you already own other EGO tools. The included 2.5Ah battery may require frequent swapping for heavy use. Upkeep involves maintaining the automatic oiling system and keeping the chain sharp. The IPX4 rating allows for light rain use, but you should store it indoors. Verify that your workspace has access to charging stations. This tool complements rather than replaces a shredder. Plan your workflow to move cut limbs directly to the chipper. Ensure you have spare batteries if you tackle large jobs. This approach keeps your yard work efficient and organized without mixing incompatible tasks.
Check before you buy
- Check battery compatibility with your existing EGO tools.
- Verify you have a separate wood chipper for bulk debris.
- Ensure access to charging stations near your work area.
- Plan for frequent battery swaps with the 2.5Ah unit.
